PQ Business Intelligence (PQBI), the specialist information delivery division of PQ Africa, has announced that the next version of Actuate Corporation`s industry-standard information delivery tool, e.Reporting server, will be shipped with Java functionality that adds a new dimension to online enterprise reporting.
The Java spreadsheet application will give business users the functionality of a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet when viewing Web-based data, allowing them to make calculations, tabulate data, chart statistics and generate complex tables with live data from Actuate`s interactive reporting engine.
The announcement follows Actuate`s acquisition of Tidestone Technologies in the US in May, along with its Formula One for Java technology.
"Formula One`s compatibility with Excel spreadsheets makes it easy to use for users familiar with the Excel interface and functions," says PQBI managing executive Gavin Lipshitz. "If you are an Excel user, using Formula One requires virtually no training."
Actuate e.Reporting server builds reports based on raw data processed in data warehouses and operational systems in an organisation, generating Web-based interactive reports for office-based and mobile users.
A recent Forrester report suggests that enhancing its Java interoperability will help Actuate gain customers among Java developers, adding that more application servers are Java-2 platform, Enterprise-Edition-compliant, and people are writing applications that are Java-compliant.
