Information and communication technology integration company PQ Africa, part of JSE-listed Comparex Holdings, has changed its name to Comparex Africa from today.
The original name came about with the 1997 merger of Persetel Holdings and Q Data.
PQ Holdings went on to make several European acquisitions and changed its name to Comparex Holdings in 1998 after acquiring European IT company Comparex Informationssysteme.
The African operation retained the PQ Africa name and focus fell on streamlining internal operations and improving business systems.
Comparex CEO Peter Watt says the African operation has entered the next phase of its life cycle.
"Over the past few years it has consolidated and focused its operations, established effective corporate governance, streamlined its business and consolidated its competencies, and is now delivering improved financial results. The time is right to represent these solid and significant business changes in two words, Comparex Africa."
He says the name change is significant as the Comparex brand is well known and the listed entity was recently voted SA`s top company over five years by the Financial Mail. "We helped make that happen and today that is recognised," he adds.
"The considerable changes evident in so many areas of our business provide a platform to launch a new brand that is a true reflection of the position which our organisation has achieved.
"As a South African listed company we have an obligation to our shareholders to create a clearer understanding of the relationship between the operational entity and the listed entity, therefore we are supporting this alignment by simplifying the brand."
Comparex Africa group companies are to be rebranded to reduce the complexity of the existing brand structure, although group companies with strong brand equity, such as Persetel, Q Data and Q Vector, will retain their existing trademarks.
Comparex Africa says it will continue to focus on solutions, using technology to deliver business solutions that best meet client requirements.
Comparex Holdings now has Comparex-branded operations in 14 countries - Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Luxembourg, Namibia, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, SA, Spain, the UK and the US.
