Comparex`s PQ Africa has provided a clear vision of its new approach to e-commerce - and it`s going to be driven strongly by integration and transactive content, says ECnet MD Willem van Rensburg.
ECnet, one of PQ Africa`s e-commerce subsidiaries, will be looking to integrated e-commerce solutions, including digital certification, in an aggressive bid to grab more of what Van Rensburg calls "big business market share." "We`ll be looking to provide organisations with a full circle solution for enabling them to do business on the Net," explains Van Rensburg. This will include full commerce-enablement, order management, online customer service, record keeping and the switching of transactions to the banks.
Van Rensburg says his company has maintained a relatively low profile while putting the building blocks of the e-commerce strategy in place. One of these blocks, ECnet`s channel programme, will be getting smaller companies up and running on the web within three days while ECnet focuses on business-to-business solutions. "There`s a lot of vapourware from the IT marketplace at the moment, but we`re in 'doing` mode," says Van Rensburg.
ECnet will provide merchants with the necessary back-office transaction management system that will conduct transactions and settle them online in real-time. "Some of the steps that we will take to commerce enable a client would involve the setup within the ECnet server, commerce-enablement of web pages, training and the generation of security keys," says Van Rensburg.
PQ Africa`s medical e-commerce arm, QEDI, has nearly two-thirds of the medical switching market in spite of competition from relative newcomers like Usko`s Mediswitch and IS Healthbridge, and is building a powerful vertical community around a commitment to delivery and compelling value-add.
An independently positioned e-commerce subsidiary, the South African Certificate Agency (SACA), will be providing certificates to accompany transactions that are conducted over the Net, to provide positive identification of the parties. "The certificates we offer provide a great deal of peace of mind in the buying process over the Internet," says SACA MD Tim Ellis.
