PRAGMA partners with Dutch-based Cordys for application delivery to global manufacturers

Johannesburg, 01 Oct 2004

South African asset performance management software solutions specialist PRAGMA has announced a strategic partnership with Cordys, the Netherlands-based global software company that provides Web-based collaborative solutions.

PRAGMA will leverage Cordys` business collaboration platform to build and commercialise an off-the-shelf solution that unifies manufacturing monitoring systems within a single Web services-based portal.

The partnership follows the purchase by Cordys of a 10% share in PRAGMA on the strength of PRAGMA`s software offering and software development capability. Cordys was founded by CEO Jan Baan, designer of the Baan ERP system.

The company has recently launched its core architecture, a business collaboration platform that enables leading-edge companies to create enterprise-class composite application frameworks. By leveraging Internet-related XML technology, Cordys creates a single model whereby new business systems and process capabilities can be quickly and easily developed and integrated with existing systems.

Cordys also offers a range of reusable generic business components through its Component Gallery, which are developed using the business collaboration platform. Each component accelerates the development and deployment of composite applications.

"PRAGMA is building on Cordys` novel enterprise application-level technology to improve asset performance management efficiency and responsiveness across our clients` extended manufacturing enterprise," said Adriaan Scheeres, CEO of PRAGMA. "Cordys` technology will enable PRAGMA to significantly reduce IT costs and complexities of plant-management for our manufacturing clients."

There is synergy between the two companies` focus. PRAGMA`s software solutions harness asset performance improvement at optimum lifecycle cost, while Cordys` provides software and Web-based solutions to improve operational efficiency and responsiveness and promote faster, more effective change.

Using Cordys` technology, PRAGMA will enable its manufacturing clients to identify, manage and compare key performance indicators and other quality management activities from disparate manufacturing plant sites located around the world.

PRAGMA`s clients span a wide scope of local and international manufacturing industries such as consumer goods, food processing, mining, petrochemicals and pharmaceuticals, as well as non-manufacturing industries such as utilities, facilities, healthcare, transport, telecommunications and local government.

The initial investment by Cordys, which is in excess of R3 million, is regarded as the start of its commitment to invest substantially in software development in SA.

"By implementing Cordys` Web services-based technology, PRAGMA will significantly increase and streamline the production and quality management capabilities at the enterprise level of its manufacturing clients," says Henk de Ruiter, executive VP of Cordys. "PRAGMA marks the first deal in Cordys` global partner programme that brings better operational efficiency and responsiveness to market sectors that need to adapt to change faster and more effectively."
