Synergy BI is gearing up to launch its much-anticipated BI Masterclass Series of breakfast presentations, scheduled for September, in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban.
"We are inviting BI managers and professionals to join us as we learn from thought-leaders Peter Senge, Tom Davenport, and even a philosopher or two, to find parallels in mastering BI," said Synergy MD Christo Bredenkamp.
"Business intelligence is a melting pot of the analytical and creative; the business mind and the technically savvy - a place where design meets systems-thinking. In the presentations we will discuss techniques that BI uses to model our current and prospective customers' businesses, and guide their strategy."
The presentations by Synergy BI principal consultant, Gill Staniland, will highlight a number of key issues.
"For example, we will look at the illusive promise of Insight and whether it is achievable. While on the subject, we will explore our ability to interpret, analyse and synthesise, and consider critical-thinking and problem-solving techniques essential in any BI project," Staniland said.
KPIs will also be in the spotlight, as well as relationships, which Staniland refers to as "the building blocks in BI".
"It's all about the connections between people, strategy, data models and dashboards to tell the BI story. The arrows are more important than the boxes," she explained.
"The balancing act of managing the rollout of 'new' BI, such as visualisation, dashboards, mobile and predictive analytics versus getting the fundamental building blocks in place, is another area that will receive attention."
Completing the offering will be a look at BI skills on the fringe.
"We will delve into the supplementary skills needed to encourage uptake, exploring how augmenting your team of IT experts with a librarian, graphics designer and even a journalist, will stand you in good stead. Finally, we'll discuss the role of the business, systems and BI analyst and whether all this analysis is leading to understanding," Staniland added.
The breakfast presentations will be held at the Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town on 18 September; at The Oyster Box Hotel in Durban on 19 September; and at the Michaelangelo Hotel in Johannesburg on 20 September.
