Presidential spokesman Bheki Khumalo has taken up a senior portfolio at Siemens.
After many months of speculation in the industry, Siemens announced on Thursday that it had appointed Khumalo as director of corporate affairs.
A former Siemens employee, Khumalo rejoins the company after serving about six years in the public sector as the spokesman of the country's head of state.
He has worked for Energy Measurement Limited, which was 50% owned by Siemens from 1996 to 1998, and after that joined the government.
Effective from 1 August, Khumalo's portfolio at Siemens will encompass areas such as corporate communications, major events and government relations. It is believed he will be the first and only black member of Siemen's executive committee.
Khumalo will also become a member of the company's executive committee.
