Printacom donates printers, year`s worth of consumables to charity organisations

Johannesburg, 07 Jun 2005

Reinforcing its commitment to community upliftment in SA, Printacom has announced the donation of a printer and a year`s worth of consumables each to three charity organisations, namely the Teddy Bear Clinic, Operation Bobbi Bear and WARMTH (War Against Malnutrition, Tuberculosis and Hunger).

"The three charities benefiting from our donation were chosen based on their valuable contribution to society in the form of community education and poverty alleviation as well as the fact that they approach SA`s problems from distinctly different perspectives," says Neil Rom, managing director of Printacom.

Formed in 1986, the Teddy Bear Clinic for Abused Children provides both medical and short-term counselling services to sexually abused children and their families. In addition, the Teddy Bear Clinic offers training (covering a wide spectrum of child abuse issues) to medical professionals, social workers, teachers and communities, runs an awareness programme for school children in Soweto and has also established a court preparation programme for abused children and their families.

Founded in 2000, Operation Bobbi Bear`s purpose is to rescue, represent and reintegrate sexually-abused children, to minimise their risk of contracting HIV/AIDS, and to help them towards wholeness.

Some of the organisation`s activities include assisting young victims to report the crimes and applying therapeutic methods to obtain forensic evidence to assist the criminal justice process, keeping the best interests of the child in mind. The organisation also assesses the HIV/AIDS risk of child victims of sexual abuse at point-of-rescue, to intervene and to counsel appropriately.

Operating in underprivileged areas WARMTH strives to relieve hunger, malnutrition and chronic diseases by providing low-cost nutritious food to disadvantaged communities, through a network of community kitchens and healthcare workshops, thereby stimulating community development.

"As a good corporate citizen, Printacom believes it is part of its duty as a South African company to assist worthy causes such as the Teddy Bear Clinic, Operation Bobbi Bear and WARMTH," Rom continues.

"We encourage businesses to open their hearts and wallets in order to make a positive change in our society. We believe the contribution we have made will effect a valuable difference in these organisations and hopefully reduce the costs they need to incur in their daily running," he says.

In the coming year, Rom says Printacom will continue to give focus to its corporate social investment responsibilities and look for further worthy causes to provide assistance to.

"Whether this means further printer and consumables donations, the time and effort of our employees and directors, or the donation of funds, Printacom is committed to doing its bit for change in SA," Rom concludes.
