Printacom snaps up TallyGenicom agency for southern Africa

Johannesburg, 06 Apr 2009

In a move that signals Printacom's strengthening ties with US-based Printronix, the local printer distributor will be reviving the TallyGenicom brand in South Africa.

This follows the recent acquisition by Printronix of certain of the defunct printer vendor's assets in a bankruptcy auction. TallyGenicom filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection at the end of January this year.

“We have come full circle with the TallyGenicom brand, having represented it previously, and we are especially pleased to be able to offer the channel continuity of their products, service and support,” says Neil Rom, Printacom managing director. “We are perfectly positioned to not only continue where TallyGenicom left off, but strengthen that position.”

Rom explains that bringing the brand into the Printacom fold will add greater stability, increased responsiveness to the market and reassurance for TallyGenicom customers.

“It also reinforces the fact that we are interested in what the channel wants and needs, while demonstrating our support of their end customers,” he adds. “We aim to provide a seamless user experience and have, therefore, retained the authorised service partner and have employed two of TallyGenicom's top local staff to join our team.”

Libby Ballardin, former senior sales executive for TallyGenicom SA, was appointed at the beginning of March this year to head Printacom's specialised printing division. This division is focused on high-volume line, thermal and bar code printers.

Printacom has also appointed Andre van der Walt, who was formerly TallyGenicom's senior engineer for training and support, while Printegration has been retained as the authorised service provider.

Ballardin is confident the brand's new home is geared to providing even better levels of service, while offering greater value.

“Key things like physical infrastructure, distribution strategies and logistics give us an immediate advantage,” he stated. “We also have the backup of product managers, sales people, with admin and technical staff who know the printer space intimately to kick-start the brand.”

Rom says the promise of seamless product delivery and service will be realised when the first shipment of equipment arrives by mid-April.

“We have already placed our orders for products, which will be in the country in the second week of April,” he says.

Printacom's growing relationship with Printronix was cemented early in March when it signed an agreement to represent the vendor's RFID bar code printers, which is aimed at the logistics and supply-chain industries.

This product line will dovetail with Printacom's OKI MX range of line printers, which is now bolstered even further with the addition of the TallyGenicom range.
