TM TOUCH, the GSM network operator subsidiary of Malaysia`s giant telecommunications corporation, Telekom Malaysia, has called on secure electronic payments company, Prism Holdings, to provide the infrastructure and technology components required to support its mobile commerce initiatives.
The TM Touch contract, initially valued at over R22-million, involves four components:
* The provision of Prism`s short message service platform, AirTrax SMS-C;
* The provision of Prism Incognito, a family of advanced crypto adapters and transactive security products which ensure the security of m-commerce transactions over current GSM cellular phone networks;
* A volume order of aSIMetrix SIM cards, the world`s first Subscriber Identification Module to incorporate a full suite of crypto, payment and secure multi-application capability. The first order of SIMs is expected to be renewed on an ongoing basis.
* The system integration services required to implement TM Touch`s m-commerce offerings.
The TM Touch deal follows Prism`s acquisition of 30% of Telekom Applied Business (TAB), Telekom Malaysia`s Information Communication Technology (ICT) software development subsidiary and is a clear indication of the potential inherent in Prism`s partnership with the telecommunications corporation.
Steven Sidley, Prism Group Marketing Director says the acceptance of such a broad spread of Prism products by TM Touch augurs well for the company in other large mobile commerce solutions.
"Sophisticated mobile commerce solutions require an end-to-end solution, which comprise a large number of integrated technologies and platforms. We are gratified that TM Touch`s vision and our technology were so well matched", he adds.
Wim Grobler, CEO, Prism Asia Pacific, says TM Touch has an aggressive and exciting vision for m-commerce that dovetails with Prism`s view of where mobile technology is going.
"The deal represents a deepening of our strategic relationship with the greater Telekom Malaysia group and is an affirmation of the growing acceptance of Prism technology and respect for the company`s experience in m-commerce, in the Asia Pacific region," he concludes.
Prism AirTrax is a high-speed SMSC (Short Message Service Centre) designed specifically to enable GSM network operators to maximise on the 2G m-commerce and VAS (Value-Added-Services) opportunities. The platform is available for both the Solaris and Redhat 7.2 Linux operating systems and offers operators an alternative to the conventional store-and-forward messaging centres available on the market today.
The AirTrax platform is equipped with an Intelligent Cache`ing operation that allows routing requests between the message service centre and the network HLR (Home Location register) to be reduced by up to 40%. This reduction in traffic results in message per second performance benefits which are highly advantageous within the mobile commerce and advanced data-applications space.
Prism Incognito
Consumers, merchants, financial institutions and network operators demand the same levels of authentication, confidentiality, integrity and non-repudiation for wireless transactions as they do for physical world payments. Prism Incognito makes transactions conducted over cellphones as secure as using a credit card at merchants, downloading cash from ATMs, or physically going into the bank to transfer funds. The crypto servers can be resident at the operator or bank to execute stringent crypto functions like decrypting or verifying signatures.
Prism Incognito crypto hardware and software conforms to all internationally recognised security protocols, algorithms and card association requirements.
Prism aSIMetrix
Prism aSIMetrix SIM card combines the full spectrum of GSM Phase 2+ functionality, together with a SmartTrust compliant WIB (Wireless Internet Browser), advanced menu and application management functions, and a full suite of advanced cryptographic plug-ins, all on a single card. It uniquely caters for secure wireless payment and other mobile applications with stringent security requirements.
