Prisma Solutions launches Alchemy in SA

Johannesburg, 23 May 2001

Prisma Solutions launched Information Management Research (IMR`s) Alchemy range of products in South Africa yesterday.

IMR was founded during 1992 and has since its inception shown a 40% annual growth. IMR is a leading provider of open system software tools and infrastructures that integrate unstructured data into e-business applications - as IMR found that 80% of companies` valuable information that it requires on a regular basis resides in unstructured documents and in multiple formats.

Elizabeth Pope, Regional Sales Manager for South Europe, Middle East and Africa, said that Microsoft recently stated that paper forms are costing organisations over $150 per transaction.

In addition, The Gartner Group recently indicated that for every $1 spent on producing a paper form, an additional $30 to $60 is spent processing those forms. IMR believes that Alchemy can help organisations leverage the power of their information - through capturing, organising, storing and accessing and sharing the valuable documents and data scattered throughout desktops, computers and filing cabinets, in a multitude of formats and file types.

Prisma deems that IMR`s Alchemy is the right answer for organisations that deal with large amounts of data and requires quick access data. Alchemy has the ability to streamline and structure an entire process whilst improving organisations` B2B relationships. With Alchemy, data will be accessible in a single repository.

Hugo Leuner, MD, Prisma Solutions stated, "Prisma has embarked on a decisive strategy to take on the IMR range of products - as it will complement Prisma`s existing offering." Leuner added that Alchemy would form a close line with its existing products and increase Prisma`s existing offering to its reseller channel and corporate users.

Alchemy`s interface can be customised and will run on Oracle or SQL Server and integrates with CRM, ERP, accounting and HR software. IMR believes that Alchemy`s benefits are measurable in terms of money as it increases employee productivity, improves customer service, secures documents and reduces costs.

Example: IMR installed Alchemy in NASA to provide the electrical power system for the International Space Station Project. The large amount of volume and contract manufacturing and engineering data has made document management and imaging an integral part of this project. The records management advisor at Boeing estimates that Alchemy has reduced retrieval time for contract documents from five or six days to five minutes. Engineers now have immediate access to crucial data via the network, tracking the history of every aspect of the project in a matter of seconds. Another example is The Hartford, an insurance company whose microfilm requirements dropped by 35% to 40%, which resulted in an annual saving of $110 000. Even though IMR`s Alchemy has positioned itself well in the marketplace with established partnerships such as Kodax, RightFAX, Cardiff, Captiva and Readsoft etc - IMR`s mission is still to become the leading provider over XML-based infrastructure systems that acquire organisation and storage.

Leuner acknowledged that an Alchemy solution would allow organisations to integrate and organise diverse types of unstructured data, including computer reports, electronic documents and paper-based records. In addition, it provides open access to the information through the Internet, LAN/WAN, intranet or portable media such as CD and DVD.

Pope says, "Prisma will leverage Alchemy in South Africa through its strong market share with Cardiff`s TELEform - and TELEform`s compatibility with Alchemy."
