ProScan Systems, a leading provider of supply chain, automated data collection and mobile computing solutions, announced the introduction of a revolutionary area imaging bar code scan engine from Intermec that breaks through previous bar code scanning limitations.
The new Intermec Intellibeam EX25 scan engine reads and decodes 1D and 2D bar codes in any orientation from six inches to 50 feet, as well as composite and postal codes.
The EX25's capabilities extend even beyond bar code scanning as it can also photograph proof-of-delivery documents and evidence of damaged, expired or unsealed goods.
As the only near to far auto-focus scan engine capable of reading 1D and 2D codes up to 50 feet, as well as composite and postal codes, the EX25 allows companies to standardise on one device for all scanning requirements, substantially reducing the total cost of ownership and increasing user productivity.
Andrew Fosbrook, Managing Director of ProScan Systems, sole value-added distributor of Intermec products in southern Africa, comments: "The EX25 can read and decode bar codes in any orientation, so workers don't need to twist their wrists or the object being scanned to capture the data, saving time and reducing fatigue and injury. It's capable of reading and decoding 2D bar codes as small as 4 mil, which are common in electronics manufacturing.
"For end-users, having one scanner that reads codes in any orientation dramatically improves productivity. For IT departments, the EX25 decreases the number of data capture devices needed, reducing training and support costs."
A special lighting system allows the EX25 to easily read 1D and 2D bar codes in total darkness. Because it can read 1D and 2D bar codes printed on normal, non-reflective paper labels at long range, there is no need to purchase special media for shelf labels, which can be as much as 10 times more expensive. The unprecedented small size of the EX25 allows it to be integrated into devices that could never accommodate larger, near to far laser-based scan engines.
Intermec products that integrate the new EX25 engine, including a Bluetooth cordless scanner and mobile computer, will be available in the first quarter of 2007.
