ProScan, Intermec unite to deliver powerful solutions to SA`s barcoding industry

By ProScan Systems
Johannesburg, 18 Sept 2002

ProScan and Intermec announced a strategic partnership and roll-out to address the barcoding and automated data collection market at a series of presentations entitled "Business in Motion" to customers and dealers in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town in September.

This follows the recent appointment of ProScan as a preferred value-added distributor for Intermec`s world-renowned range of barcode scanners, handheld computers and printers in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Andrew Cahill, Sales & Marketing Director of Intermec UK, Middle East & Africa, says: "Our objective is to build a stronger position for Intermec in the South African market. We needed product skills, the desire to grow and local knowledge of the market. In ProScan, we found a strong partner that met these criteria, as well as combined experience in developing Intermec business."

Intermec is a global leader in the development, manufacture and integration of wired and MobileLAN wireless automated data collection systems, barcode printers and barcode scanners.

ProScan distributes and supports Intermec products countrywide through its head office in Boksburg, Johannesburg, as well as through dealers and strategic partners throughout SA.

Both companies made two important strategic announcements, which include the establishment of a local bonded warehouse to hold fast-moving Intermec products, bringing quick and efficient supply into SA to meet local demands. The other announcement pertained to the distribution channel and outlined the roll-out of a clearly defined accreditation channel program enabling solution partners and dealers to share in training, support and marketing investments to develop business and thereby offer the customer a professional and in-depth service.

ProScan and Intermec will also focus on providing cost-effective systems and solutions to vertical target markets, including retail, warehousing, distribution, transport and logistics and manufacturing.

Andrew Fosbrook, Managing Director of ProScan, comments: "Potential data collection and mobile computing customers and Intermec`s existing user base have responded positively to the news that Intermec products and solutions will now be backed by a reliable distributor.

"We are delighted that Intermec has committed resources to develop the business in southern Africa. Our sales, technical and support staff at ProScan are very knowledgeable about the Intermec range of products and are capable to roll it out into the channel and industry at large."
