Micromuse Inc (Nasdaq: MUSE), the leading provider of real-time fault management and service assurance software, and Protek, the global supplier of business and operational support systems, today announced that Protek has joined the Micromuse Alliance programme as a Netcool Ready partner.
Under the agreement, Protek is licensing the Netcool/Software Developers Kit (Netcool/SDK) application to develop an interface to the Netcool suite.
The integration will enable Protek to create a Netcool Ready solution for its Service Provisioning and Real-Time Inventory solution. Protek is focused on providing advanced real-time inventory systems that manage customer and service data as well as network equipment and end-to-end circuits. Micromuse and Protek already share a number of customers, including ntl, KPN and BT.
"Knowing as much as possible about the network is invaluable to network operators faced with problem resolution," said John Cuming, Protek`s Vice President, Business Development. "The integration with Micromuse`s Netcool suite will allow the instant association between network faults and the customers affected, helping network operators create associations between problems in the infrastructure, the uptime of services, service provisioning and inventory."
In a network environment, hundreds of changes occur daily. Inventory databases are typically out of step with actual network topology. The impact of managing networks based on inaccurate data is devastating to the efficiency of fault resolution. Access to up-to-date information allows for informed and intelligent decisions that help improve the customer`s overall Quality of Service. The automatic discovery of equipment, equipment status changes and customer recognition are powerful features that are, made possible with the integration of Protek`s Service Provisioning solution and Micromuse`s Netcool suite.
"Real-time service provisioning and inventory systems that can make the association between problems on the network and customer service data are a significant step towards intelligent service management," said Andy Aiello, Micromuse`s Senior Vice President, Business Development. "The integration of the Netcool solution with Protek`s Service Provisioning and Real-Time Inventory offering broadens the scope of Netcool`s monitoring capabilities. Our integration will enable the strengthening of the support we provide for our existing mutual customers and future customers."
The Micromuse Alliance provides Micromuse and its alliance members with the resources to co-operatively pursue business, technical and marketing opportunities.
Already a significant number of vendors have joined Micromuse`s Alliance programme to develop and provide off-the-shelf integrated solutions for mutual customers. To that end, Micromuse actively enlists best-in-class solutions providers offering applications complementary to Netcool.
Micromuse provides its approved Netcool Ready partners with the Netcool/SDK. Provided in CD-ROM format, the Netcool/SDK provides the tools necessary to develop Netcool Probes, Gateways and Data Source Adapters.
Service Provisioning
Service Provisioning is a powerful solution that makes the task of managing, planning and maintaining a network much easier than ever before.
Protek`s Service Provisioning seamlessly links a detailed representation of the network inventory databases with real network components and network alarms.
When integrated with Protek`s Network Management, Service Provisioning automatically discovers existing and new elements of the network making them immediately available for use in provisioning. Information can be tracked, provisioned and updated in real-time, allowing engineers to configure the network properly without having to schedule time-consuming on-site audits and analyses prior to service deployment.
Service Provisioning also provides a list of customers affected by network faults, allowing the operator to prioritise customers and ensure adherence to service level agreements.
the Netcool Suite
Micromuse`s Netcool software suite collects management data from more than 300 management environments and network devices, including voice, data and Internet.
Fault data is rapidly processed and filtered by the Netcool ObjectServer, an in-memory database. The Netcool suite helps operators to build views of service availability in real-time, helping them manage networks more efficiently. Because it is scalable and deploys rapidly, the Netcool suite helps service providers expand their networks as their markets grow.
