Protek signs customer care and billing agreement with ONATEL in Burkina Faso

Protek to implement the first convergent customer care and billing platform for GSM, fixed line and ISP operations in West Africa

ONATEL (Office National des Telecommunications) in Burkina Faso has chosen Protek, a leading global supplier of business and operational support systems, to provide a Customer Care & Billing (CCB) system to help support its rapidly growing subscriber base.

ONATEL is the largest operator in Burkina Faso with over 100,000 post-paid subscribers. The deal involves a fully convergent solution, encompassing fixed line, GSM, interconnect and ISP services, which will integrate all existing billing systems and provide a flexible platform that can be readily enhanced as necessary.

The account win is a huge coup for us, as it is very rare for a French operator to sign an English speaking company if a French speaking company is also pitching for the business. The solution, which will be implemented this year, will be a challenging project. As ONATEL is an ISP and provides fixed and mobile access, Protek`s CCB solution will interface with a number of different types of switches and at the same time provide a cost effective offering.
