Proxim is expected to become the market share leader in IEEE 802.11b enterprise NICs (network interface cards), due to the recent acquisition of the ORiNOCO product line from Agere.
This prediction is substantiated by research group In-Stat/MDR, stating that ORiNOCO 802.11b NICs hold 8.6% market share compared to 7.4% from its nearest competitor.
Proxim is already the confirmed leader - according to In-Stat/MDR - in the IEEE 802.11a wireless LAN Access Point and NICs space, with 58% market share.
"Proxim`s strength in the 802.11a market, combined with the acquisition of the ORiNOCO product lines now positions the company as one of leaders in wireless networking for the enterprise, service provider and hot spot markets," says In-Stat/MDR.
Adds Graham Vorster, chief technology officer of South African distributor, Duxbury Networking: "Demand for wireless LANs continues to grow, with significant interest in both 802.11b and 802.11a solutions.
"With Proxim`s strength in both these markets, we`re able to provide SA users with solutions that best fit their needs, regardless of the standard."
