PS3 on way out?
While the Wii and PlayStation 3 (PS3) are doing well in the current-generation war, PS3 is getting "squeezed out", states Xbox group product manager Aaron Greenberg, according to Computer And Video Games.
Microsoft has been in a pretty positive mood since April NPD data confirmed 360 to be the first console to hit the 10 million sales mark in US, which Microsoft interprets as a forecast for current-generation victory.
"Xbox 360 has hit 10 million units, the Wii is now getting close to that milestone, whereas the PS3 seems to be a bit stalled, and what you're finding is that there are two platforms that are performing very well, going after two uniquely different types of consumers, while the PS3 really seems like it's getting squeezed out," Greenberg added.
New president for Sony
Following the departure of Phil Harrison, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) has named a new president of SCE Worldwide Studios (WWS), says Next-Gen.
Shuhei Yoshida became the president of SCE WWS on 16 May, marking what may be the beginning of a new era for PlayStation's software division.
Yoshida is currently SVP of US Studios at SCE WW. When he assumes his new position, he will fill shoes left by the highly visible Harrison, who departed Sony in February, and took a job with French game publisher Infogames.
Sega signs deal with Platinum
Sega says the new partnership with PlatinumGames will bring four unique games to market, created by proven Japanese development talent, says Next-Gen.
Osaka, Japan-based PlatinumGames is an independent developer comprised of former members of Clover Studio, the expired Capcom development house behind titles including Okami and God Hand.
Games that fall under the agreement with Sega include the highly-stylised Wii-exclusive game Madworld, the space faring DS RPG Infinite Line, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 action game Bayonetta from Devil May Cry creator Hideki Kamiya, and an unannounced game from Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami.
