Q Data Distribution markets new end-to-end BayRS 13.0

Q Data Distribution has announced the release of Nortel Network`s version 13.0 of BayRS, featuring the most comprehensive end-to-end routing services to date.

BayRS 13.0 allows customers to easily extend multicast routing to new or existing networks. Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) Relay minimises WAN overhead by forwarding IGMP control messages from core routers to edge devices without requiring a full multicast routing protocol running on the edge routers.

The strength of the current routing software release, is in the ease of use provided to network administrators. "Through delivering IGMP Relay, there remains no other solution in the industry that incorporates this technology with such ease and traffic manageability," explained Q Data Distribution product manager Anton van Bers.

IGMP Relay eliminates the complexities of configuration on the boundary router interfaces on which multicast support is required. It then forwards all multicast message requests to those devices that wish to participate in the multicast network.

While extending multicast routing to new or existing routed networks, it also simplifies the manageability of configuring a complete peer-to-peer multicast routing protocol. This feature is especially suited to wide-area network applications, and even extends multicast routing to dial-up network environments which traditionally have not been possible with multicast routing.

As customers look to extend multicast routing capabilities across their new or existing networks, the BayRS 13.0 IGMP Relay allows for vendor-independence and operation with either Bay or non-Bay core routers. IGMP Relay also supports multicast capabilities over dial-up connections by eliminating the frequent updates and line overhead incurred when running a full multicast protocol between devices. It is compatible with all multicast protocols, including MOSPF, DVMRP and PIM, allowing these protocols to be easily extended from edge routers to customer devices.
