QAD boosts local automotive industry

Johannesburg, 29 Oct 2008

QAD wants to make the local automotive industry more competitive in the international arena.

The global enterprise resource planning (ERP) and supply chain provider was chosen as one of three preferred suppliers of ERP solutions to the local automotive industry by the Automotive Industry Development Centre (AIDC) and supported by the Department of Trade and Industry.

“The automotive sector is the largest exporter in South Africa and counts for 13% of the local manufacturing industry,” says Natascha Le Roux, QAD SA's new business sales executive. “We cannot afford for one supplier to lose out to another in a foreign country.”

Le Roux explains how QAD was chosen, out of eight bidding vendors, during the AIDC's “ERP Simplified” project. The project was aimed at increasing the global competitiveness of local automotive suppliers.

A QAD statement says the company was selected as a preferred supplier based on, among others, its strong local and global support structure, sound implementation methodology as well as a competitive cost structure.

More than compliant

QAD's involvement in developing Materials Management Operations Guideline/Logistics Evaluation (MMOG/LE) was a key factor in selecting it as a preferred vendor, explains Le Roux.

This is a recognised global standard for logistics processes that emanate from Odette in Europe and the AIAG in the US. It is now required by many original equipment manufacturers around the globe.

“QAD was the only software vendor approached by the AIAG and Odette to formalise MMOG/LE as logistic standard, and has a member on the board,” says Le Roux.

QAD is also the only accredited MMOG/LE trainer and whenever clients purchase its solutions, they become instantly industry compliant, she adds. benefits include an improved ability to compete in the global automotive industry, as well as gains in operational performance.
