QDD announces new management tool for Lan/Wan configuration

Johannesburg, 08 Oct 1999

As networks become more complex it is increasingly more important that vendors realise this and provide products that simplify the way we networks. In line with this, Q Distribution (QDD) has announced the availability of Nortel Networks Optivity Networks Configuration System (NCS).

"As a key component of the company`s Unified Management , Nortel Networks is simplifying network management through managing work as a system. This means bulk, multi-service, multi-vendor and network-wide configuration," says QDD product manager Anton van Bers.

The virtual local area networks (VLAN) configuration wizard in a NCS takes the user through configuring the various VLAN parameters of Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches, saving time and avoiding erroneous configurations.

"The new packet filter feature in NCS changes the tedious job of controlling traffic across the network and makes it easier. This function enables network filters to be configured once and automatically distributed to the network device.

It thus offers a proactive approach to set the framework for provisioning the network to support future policy enabled services and the allocation of resources, to better meet the demands of mission critical business applications.

Automatic configuration can be made across the entire network during off-peak hours, limiting the amount of network disruption experienced by the network users.
