QDD unveils 3Com`s new low cost stackable 10/100 switching solution

Johannesburg, 28 Oct 1999

Q Distribution (QDD) has announced the latest addition to 3Com`s family of stackable solutions. The SuperStack II Switch 3300 XM delivers cost savings for 10/100 Ethernet/Fast Ethernet switching, saving customers up to 50% over comparable competitive solutions.

"This cost saving makes it practical and affordable for any size business to take advantage of 10/100 switching to boost performance to resource-constrained desktop users and servers without disrupting existing 10Mbps users," according to QDD product manager Siobhan Hanvey.

When multiple SuperStack II Switch 3300 XMs are stacked together, or combined with the Switch 3300, which supports multiple high-speed connection options, users will get the lowest cost per port on any stacked solution.

"Essentially, the difference between the SuperStack II Switch 3300XM and the current SuperStack II Switch 3300 is the absence of a high-speed connection slot on the 3300 XM, which allowed 3Com to reduce the cost per port dramatically. The 3300XM runs the same software features such as 802.1 prioritisation, IGMP snooping and 802.1Q VLAN Support. This will strengthen 3Com`s lead in the local 10/100 switching market," she said.

3Com`s stacking technology enables management to connect multiple switches together without consuming valuable ports or adding expensive IP addresses. These switches can be managed as easily and transparently as a single switch.

"As part of the SuperStack II Switch 1100/3300 family, the Switch 3300 XM comes with 3Com`s +5 lifetime limited warranty and with QDD`s hardware replacement customers are ensured of uninterrupted service. Customers will receive a replacement unit as soon as a fault unit is returned to us," Hanvey explained.
