Qlik European Championships App: 56 years of data at your fingertips

Qlik Sense app visualises historic and live data on all previous Euros tournaments, allowing fans around the world to uncover facts and insights on their teams and players.

Johannesburg, 08 Jun 2016

Qlik (NASDAQ: QLIK), a leader in visual analytics, announced it has launched the Qlik European Championships App, a Qlik Sense application which brings data from all previous Euro tournaments and allows users to become armchair experts in just a few clicks of the mouse.

The unique application, which contains data on teams and players since the inception of the tournament in 1960, offers sports fans globally the chance to visualise, analyse, compare and contrast their favourite teams and players and assess their chances in this year's competition. It will also be updated throughout the tournament, providing near real-time updates on teams' rankings.

The app is available for free to fans around the world. It is available online or through any mobile device and lets followers slice and dice the data to uncover new facts and aid predictions.

For example, did you know...

* A total of 579 goals have been scored since the first Euro championship in 1960;
* Based on the historic data, there is a 26% chance of a penalty being awarded in a match;
* Of all the penalties taken, 73% are scored;
* Most goals are scored in the second half of the game - the timeslot with the highest number of goals scored is 50-55 minutes;
* Bulgaria is the country which has averaged the most red and yellow cards so far, in the history of the tournament; and
* The average height of players is increasing, especially the goalkeepers. Average player height has increased 6.44cm since 1960, though for goalkeepers that increase is 10cm.

Users who want to test their data literacy and footballing knowledge further can also enjoy the quiz section of the app, which includes questions set at three different levels of difficulty. Some require just one click of the mouse to solve; others should be solvable in two clicks and others in three clicks. Find the quiz at http://bit.ly/qlikeuro2016 or follow the questions between now and the start of the tournament via @QlikViewSA.

"Today, analytics and sports go hand-in-hand and Qlik is proud to work with a large number of partners and customers in this sector who are showing the amazing possibilities that can come from seeing the whole story in their data. While we may all support different teams, the Euros is a fantastic tournament, which many of us get behind, and with the Euro Championship App we're pleased to be able to give data enthusiasts and sports fans alike a way of digging into the trivia and trends of all aspects of the tournament, to find the statistics that are relevant to them," said Robert Fleming, VP International Marketing for Qlik.
