"Screw it, let's do it again," says Sir Richard Branson

Virgin Mobile sparkles on its second birthday and gives South Africans Diamonds
Johannesburg, 30 Jun 2008

Virgin Mobile turned two years old on 24 June. The trendy mobile company celebrated this day in true Virgin style. Customers that responded to Sir Richard Branson's calling on the 24th June 2006 received the newly launched, state of the art HTC Touch Diamond mobile phone, distributed locally by Leaf International Communications, and a personalised, autographed book from the author and the Virgin Mobile founder.

"Thank you for your loyalty and for making every second count. Happy Birthday. Have a Diamond," said Sir Richard Branson. "Screw it, let's do it again."

"It's true that we do know our customers by name. We care about them and we know where they live. So it was quite possible for us to visit them at their homes and offices to surprise them with a gift from Sir Richard Branson who was here when they signed up for our services," said Peter Boyd, CEO of Virgin Mobile, after doing a couple of surprise deliveries to the loyal customers.

Celebrating two years in South Africa's telecoms industry is worthy of Diamond. And that's exactly what Virgin Mobile has done. Virgin Mobile customers across South Africa have this week been delighted by unexpected telephone calls to notify them of a gift delivery from Branson.

"When I got the phone call, I thought someone was playing a joke on me, but low and behold within minutes I was meeting with a Virgin Mobile CEO and a photographer, outside my office!" said Mrs Sonjia Fourie from Kempton Park.

"It's only fitting that Virgin Mobile celebrated two successful years in South Africa in style but more importantly, the exercise is about giving thanks to those who joined us on our first day in the country," concluded Boyd.
