BSW Telecoms has secured a R 12-m order from Telkom Networks` TMN division for an upgrade to its network management application. The application is based on BSW`s AccessView product. Designed for large networks and in line with ITU-T M.3010 recommendations, AccessView provides an integrated view of the entire Telkom computer network - represented in graphical format - from any workstation within the organisation. "The system, which is used by Telkom`s regional high level support teams, is fully distributed thereby allowing the network to be viewed from various centres around the country," says Jabu Sibanda, BSW account manager. "AccessView is essentially a fault management system for transmission networks. With AccessView, faults are reported using trouble tickets which reflect the exact nature of the fault and its location. "This simplifies fault correction and assists Telkom in preparing the correct response in terms of manpower and technical resources," says Sibanda. "A key feature of the system - which is aligned with Telkom`s TMN strategy - is its positioning as a Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy (PDH) network manager, " adds Sibanda. "This increases productivity, decreases downtime and facilitates an overall improvement in network efficiency." The AV5 system is also said to provide proactive customer service management; improved service through fault isolation and management; and a significant reduction in operating costs.
