The ICT SME Public and Private Sector Partnership Programme, launched in Midrand last week, hopes to provide access to at least R75 million of contracts for small to medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in the ICT sector over the next two years.

Driven by Ntsika and Forge Ahead BMI-T, and in partnership with a number of private sector enterprises, the programme is designed to allow SMEs access to support programmes and initiatives of government and private sector.

The project aims to allow at least 20 ICT SMEs access to markets, relevant training, information, counselling and business development services.

Major stakeholders in the initiative include SAP Public Services, Accenture, EDS, the Departments of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology (Technology Station for Electronics), and Trade and Industry, and ISSA.

The 20 SMEs will be selected according to their reliability and performance, a minimum one-year track record, financial sustainability, and minimum duplication in the provision of products and services.

Forge Ahead BMI-T`s core mandate in this regard is to project , facilitate and support entrepreneurs in the ICT sector.

The project is structured in such a manner to allow the various stakeholders to leverage information, synergies and expertise from each other`s programmes and initiatives to advance ICT SME development in the country, says Simon White, joint-MD of Forge Ahead BMI-T.
