Rackspace takes on Amazon
Rackspace Hosting has acquired two companies that will expand its cloud computing services, reports NYtimes.
The company is buying Jungle Disk, which built its business on top of Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) with a management tool that allows users to treat Amazon S3 as a network drive.
Slicehost LLC, a virtual server hosting company that uses Xen virtualisation and sells its servers with full root access and reserved amounts of RAM, is the second company Rackspace is buying.
Sony promises PSP storage solution
Sony only recently released firmware version 5.00 for the PlayStation Portable (PSP), but an update is already on the cards due to a storage problem on the device, states The Gamers Voice.
The minor update will address an issue related to Memory Stick Pro Duo cards over 8GB in size. The known issue is an out of space notification message, which displays while downloading content from the PlayStation Store even if there is enough space available.
Sony says PSP firmware version 5.01 will be released soon to address the problem.
Data Robotics improves storage robot
Data Robotics is releasing a Linux Dashboard and other community-developed DroboApps for its Linux-based DroboShare network storage device, says LinuxDevices.
The Linux Dashboard application is said to open up greater control of the Drobo device for Linux developers, providing many of the functions offered to Windows and OS X users.
The company will also make a Firewire-equipped version of the small office, home office-targeted Drobo "storage robot" available to users. The storage robot is network-enabled by the DroboShare companion.
