rAge Expo has everything you love or might not know you love yet, under one roof. This year’s event will deliver gaming, technology, esports, geek culture and digital entertainment to thousands of visitors, new and old. The Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand is the event’s new home, and the weekend of 9 December is when the fun and excitement begins. Along with the new date and venue come new exhibitors, as well as attractions and experiences that our loyal fans have come to know over the last 20 years.
Exhibitors will be showcasing new products that include everything from popular culture plushies, gaming merchandise and T-shirts to the latest in high-end computer technology and racing simulators. If you live for technology, or just have a passing (and growing) interest, then you’ll find something amazing to see and do at rAge. But this is only the beginning...
The rAgeX Conference, taking place on 9 December, will assist experts and newcomers alike to come to grips with a universal and immersive virtual world, which is helping companies around the globe connect with their clients in deeper and more meaningful ways. As well as covering the metaverse, the conference will also help attendees discover the benefits of VR, AI, big data and machine learning, the algorithms and functionalities of TikTok, crypto-currencies, the internet of things and much more.
“Now is the time for SA businesses to start exploring the opportunities of the metaverse and web3 technologies. The current route in tech stocks and crypto-currencies reminds us of the dot-com boom when the real gems like Amazon and Facebook emerged after the duds went belly up,” says tech executive and keynote speaker Rutger Jan van Spaandonk. "At the rAgeX conference, we’ll look at the major trends in this space and hopefully help you pick the winners of the next internet iteration."
With 36 speakers, over eight sessions and six panel discussions, conference attendees will leave having gained a firm understanding of the technologies that are changing the planet, and how to wield them for business and personal success. But of course, rAge became famous for its gaming, and gamers will be delighted to hear that this year will be no different. Africa's biggest BYOC (bring your own computer/console) LAN is back, with Clear Access providing a lightning-fast 30Gbps internet connection for four days of 24-7 gaming.
Over the last 20 years, rAge Expo has built, hosted and grown many of South Africa’s biggest and most exhilarating esports events. rAge will once again deliver, with Intel coming on board as a major sponsor for this year’s event, and bringing the Intel Africa Masters CS:GO tournament Grand Finals to rAge with a $30 000 prize pool on offer.
“The tournament provides a platform to get African gamers out of isolation from their local country bubbles and start competing internationally. The partnership between Intel, rAge and Mettlestate will go a long way towards creating more opportunities for teams and players. By introducing Intel Africa Masters, a potential 'path to pro' can be forged,” says Intel Country Lead for South Africa, Nitesh Doolabh.
The other end of the rAge entertainment spectrum has everything to do with escapism. No matter your age or skill level, rAge is encouraging everyone to join in and dress up for the annual Cosplay Competition. For those who don't know, cosplay is a term that comes from a combination of the words' costume' and 'play'. It allows people to express their love for fictional characters by dressing up and acting like their favourite film, game and comic characters and, over the past few years, has become a booming subculture around the world, with world titles and its own celebrities. Entries are open to everyone from beginners to professionals and will be closing on 30 November 2022.
