rAge kicks off at Dome

The doors to rAge opened in Johannesburg today.

The annual gaming event is being held at the Coca-Cola Dome in Northgate.

Colourful lights against a dark backdrop is the atmospheric setting for this year`s event. Exhibitors include the likes of Telkom , Samsung, Nintendo, Unwired magazine, and many gaming companies.

A large Xbox 360 stand visually dominates the centre of the venue, with over 20 consoles for public playing and testing. The Xbox launch party is to take place this evening.

The new Intel Core 2 Duo processor stand has interactive driving simulations to emulate the speed of the new processor. Intel`s unveiling happens tomorrow evening (30 September).

Electronic Arts Games has a mini dome set up with various game consoles for gamers to play on, with new games such as The Sims 2 Pets expansion.

Gaming events include the NAG "Bring Your Own Computer" LAN, which is hoped to be the biggest LAN ever on the African continent. With about 1 200 players, the gaming experience is set to continue for about 53 hours.

Other gaming competitions are being played at the annual Arena 77, and include Counter Strike: Source, DOTA and Quake 4.
