L&T Infotech, a global provider of IT services and solutions, has been awarded a contract worth USD 10 million to integrate the business functions of Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL).
RVNL is a wholly owned public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Railways, with the specific mandate of fast-tracking implementation of rail infrastructure projects.
As per the contract, L&T Infotech will deploy SAP ERP to integrate business operations within RVNL. Under the terms of the agreement, L&T Infotech will also deliver data centre hosting, collaboration and networking, including e-tendering, project management, finance, HR functions as well as user support and maintenance. It will also integrate RVNL's 24 Project Implementing Units (PIUs) across India, including its corporate office at New Delhi.

Further, using SAP, RVNL will be able to map business processes in a highly integrated way, which will help reduce costs and ensure speedy implementation of railway projects.
L&T Infotech and Indian Railways
In the past, L&T Infotech has executed two significant turnkey SAP ERP projects for Indian Railways:
1. ICF - Integral Coach Factory, Chennai for production of coaches.
2 FMM-LMS, New Delhi for computerising the maintenance of rolling assets - wagon fleet - which carries freight traffic and diesel locomotives that haul the freight and passenger trains.
