RangeGate launches mobile integration software in UK

Home-grown mobile moves into UK market Local mobile business solutions provider RangeGate, a Datatec company, has intensified its activities in Britain by launching its InterSys mobile integration software and solutions into the UK market.

RangeGate, who has already had a presence in the country for some 18 months, took the decision following intensive market research, in which it established that the demand for software that integrated mobile systems with enterprise systems was not being met. "We did a number of investigations into the European market from a technology competitor and market size point of view, and found that what we had to offer was as good as, if not better, than what was currently available," says RangeGate director Anton du Preez. "We received overwhelmingly positive feedback from our partners and from the mobile expos we exhibited at, and out of that came some major orders for our solutions."

While Du Preez was reluctant to give details of the deals, he indicated that some major clients in the telecommunications, automotive and industries had expressed keen interest in the InterSys solution to integrate mobile devices with their enterprise systems.

"We are now breaking into new and exciting markets and mobile technology has become a critical component of enterprise computing. Companies are looking to extend the reach and life of their back-end systems. The real competitive edge RangeGate has in the UK is its ability to integrate both the more "traditional" data collection applications in supply chain and logistics, and the "new" market in executive and enterprise mobile computing. This makes InterSys a key-card in RangeGate`s product and service mix."

InterSys is a SAP-certified, enterprise-class application-enabling tool to integrate mobile devices with enterprise systems. The tool is live at over 25 mission-critical sites. It allows for real-time mobile interactivity between a company, its customers, suppliers, staff and the back office - such as ERP, CRM and database systems.

The product has traditionally been used in manufacturing, warehousing and distribution, and retail; but the latest version opens opportunities for the application to be used in financial services and telecommunications.

Du Preez indicated that RangeGate will also leverage its relationships with UK partners, such as Lotus, Microsoft, JD Edwards, SAP, Mason Communications and the supplier partners that it currently represents in South Africa.

He confirmed that RangeGate would maintain its software development centre of expertise in South Africa.
