A new service has been launched to cheer South Africans up with good news SMS messages.
The service, aimed at helping South Africans to become more positive, is available via Vodacom`s InfoText service and www.alerts.co.za.
At a cost of 75c a message, Vodacom customers can send an SMS with the keyword "Positive" to the number "4000". A text message of 160 characters containing uplifting news about SA will be transmitted back to the sender. Alternatively, clients can register on www.alerts.co.za to sign up for their daily "good news fix".
"Optimists who are often challenged to provide examples of what`s good about SA can now convert the pessimists using SMS technology," says Ivan Booth, the creator of the positive news service.
The positive news service is updated once a day at 9am and includes messages such as: "The United Nations said Thursday that SA`s National Crime Prevention Strategy was one of the best in the world and could be used as a model," and: "One of the best hotels worldwide is Cape Town`s Table Bay, according to Conde Nast Traveler USA. The hotel is one of very few scoring above 95%."
