As Rectron comes closer to its goal of R1 billion turnover for 2002/3, it has decided to split the organisation into divisions along product family lines.
Five divisions have been formed: Server, Mobile, HP, Handheld Computer, and PC and Components Divisions.
Rectron CEO Mark Lu says the move follows Rectron`s substantial growth over the past six months and is part of a strategy to further enhance the levels of service it provides to its channel partners - more than 7 000 dealers in SA.
"Through a process of 'divisionalisation`, we aim to better and more effectively embrace the opportunities that the local market will present," he says. "We are looking at new marketing opportunities in the SME, home and retail environments - areas that have been largely untapped in SA.
"At Rectron we are not only listening to our resellers but also making the necessary decisions to evolve our marketing strategies accordingly."
The Server Division is headed by Johanathan Tsao and was formed to orchestrate the assembly of no-name-brand or "whitebox" servers using Intel barebone solutions. The servers, the majority of which will be equipped with Intel`s new "Shasta" 4-way Xeon platform, will be targeted at the SME market.
The Mobile Division will handle a range of notebook PC offerings led by the flagship Toshiba range. Headed by Andre Rossouw and Dean Prinsloo, this division will also address the burgeoning wireless market in SA through more than 500 specially accredited Rectron dealers whose focus is on this arena.
The HP Division, headed by Zandre Rudolf has been formed to handle Rectron`s recent HP accreditation allowing it to market the HP range of OfficeJet and other printers and plotters as well as HP digital camera offerings.
The Handheld Computer Division will market a range of PDAs which include Handspring`s market-leading Palm-based communicator and organiser models as well as Toshiba`s range of Windows PocketPC PDAs.
Divisional head, Mike Cassidy, believes this division will be one of the fastest growing within the organisation as dealer demand for handheld PCs has regularly outstripped supply over the past year.
The PC and Components Division, headed by Adele Oosthuizen and Jacques Haarhof, will continue to concentrate on Rectron`s traditional business where there is still significant potential for growth. The aim, according to Haarhof, is for Rectron to offer even better service and support to the existing customer base.
