Taiwanese memory manufacturer TwinMOS Technologies has appointed JSE-listed IT distribution group, Rectron, as the sole South African distributor for its full range of memory module products.
This deal builds on an already close relationship between the two companies. The international memory module maker is a major shareholder in Rectron`s subsidiaries in the Netherlands, Australia, and the UK. Mark Lu, CEO of Rectron, says Rectron in South Africa now stocks the full range of TwinMOS products.
These include PC133 SDRAM, PC800 RAMBUS, SmartMedia cards, CompactFlash cards and AGP InLine Memory Modules (AIMMs).
TwinMOS, which was established two years ago, currently operates out of three manufacturing facilities. The group has offices in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, the Netherlands and the US.
Says Lu: "TwinMoss is one of the top five memory manufacturers in the world, and the number one supplier of memory products in the Asian market. We plan to grow the company`s market share in South Africa in line with this impressive international profile."
TwinMOS Technologies earlier this year pumped more than R7m into the three overseas subsidiaries of Rectron Holdings, acquiring a 20% stake in each.
Lu says that memory modules, as a commodity product in the IT industry, are subject to wide price, currency, and availability fluctuations.
Rectron has arranged to deal with TwinMOS solely on a consignment basis to counter the risks in inherent in this business.
