Rectron has formed a Server Division to build and market Intel "white box" networking and server products targeted at the small to medium-sized enterprise (SME) market.
Headed by Johnathan Tsao, the new division has been awarded value-added distributor (VAD) status by Intel - the second such accreditation in SA.
Rectron has also established a service and repair centre at its Midrand base where it will offer technical support for its products and other Intel-based offerings.
According to Tsao, Rectron will focus on the Intel SRSH4 Server Platform as its core offering, allowing resellers to tailor server offerings to take advantage of the power of 4-way Intel Xeon processors for performance-intensive applications such as Microsoft Exchange 2000 groupware, storage management and video streaming.
"Storage is a key application for the products," says Tsao. "The Xeon platform is dependable and designed to provide uninterrupted service with the help of such features as efficient system management, redundant hot-swap power supplies and fans, hot-swap SCSI drives, PCI hot-plug slots, and support from Intel Server Management for managing the server while the operating system is up or down."
Tsao adds that the Rectron Server Division will offer complete server solutions to its 6 000-plus resellers in SA. "With this in mind, we`re gearing up to offer training programmes to our dealers along with a range of marketing and other support programmes."
