South African distributor Rectron continues to drive affordable wireless networking to the local SME marketplace with the introduction of Gigabyte Technology`s Dual-band Wireless Access Point (GN-A17GU).
This multifunction access point not only integrates 802.11g technology to support the 802.11b standard within the 2.4GHz frequency band, but is also compatible with bandwidth-hungry 5GHz (802.11a) networks.
"Essentially, the Dual-Band Wireless Access Point is two devices in one box as it features an 802.11b/a/g wireless access point as well as a built-in WLMA 101 PMCIA LAN card port to support wireless connectivity in the 5GHz frequency band," explains Reon Coetzee, marketing manager at Rectron.
The bridge functionality of the Dual-Band Wireless then ties these two "devices" together, delivering a wireless distribution system (WDS) for wireless clients, also allowing the whole network to share high-speed bandwidth.
To ensure privacy and optimum security, the Dual-Band Wireless Access Point features WEP encryption and supports WiFi Protected Access (WPA) wireless security.
The access point is also designed to support Windows 98/2000/ME/XP and can be configured and managed using Gigabyte AP manager software, enabling seamlessly integration with wired of wireless network infrastructure.
