IT hardware importer and distributor Rectron has announced the South African launch of Lite-On IT`s branded Blu-ray drives. Lite-On IT is one of the world`s largest manufacturers of optical disc drives.
Says Rectron product manager, Michael Hann: "The LH-2B1S is Lite-On`s first drive with Blu-ray Disc technology, which utilises a blue-violet laser to enable users to record, rewrite and playback high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data."
The Blu-ray Disc format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs and can hold up to 50GB of data on a double layer BD disc, and up to 25GB on a single layer BD disc. The drive will also be compatible with DVD+/-R(W) (DL) media and CD-R(W) media.
Says Hann: "Besides its very high storage capacity, data transfer speeds will also be significantly increased on this drive, as it features a Serial ATA (SATA) interface."
