Rectron launches Intel 815E chipset solution

Johannesburg, 26 Oct 2000

JSE-listed IT distribution group Rectron has launched two motherboard models designed and manufactured by Gigabyte Technology for Intel`s new 815E chipset.

The two products - the GA-6OXM7E and GA-6OMM7 - are the first motherboards to ship in South Africa for the 815E chipset, which is the first Intel chipset to support front-side bus speeds of 133MHz.

Both Socket 370 motherboards are designed for Intel`s Pentium III and other compatible processors. Each of these motherboards ships with Ultra ATA100 IDE support, four USB ports, smart card reader connector, and an AGP slot for AIMM or graphics upgrade.

The GA-60XM7E provides four DIMMs for up to 512Mb SDRAM, while the GA-60MM7E supports up to the 512Mb with three DIMM slots. The GA-60XM7E supports a range of high-end features such as DualBIOS technology and Suspend-to-RAM (STR).

It features a built-in Creative CT5880 sound and integrated graphics board. In contrast, the GA-6OMM7 features an AC97 audio and integrated graphics card.

The Intel 815E chipset provides users with an alternative to the Intel 820 chipset, which was temporarily withdrawn from the market after problems were discovered in its memory translation hub (MTH).
