South African distributor Rectron is the official sponsor of one of the year`s major gaming events, the South African leg of the Electronic Sports World Cup, to be hosted at the Carousel from 29 April to 1 May 2005.
The event, which is organised by well-respected gaming events company Arena 77, is indeed indicative of Rectron`s continued support to the South African gaming industry.
"The gaming industry has seen enormous growth during the last three to four years. Internationally it`s at the top or high-end of individual spending trends and Rectron, as always, is driving this trend locally," comments Len Nery, co-owner of Arena 77.
"The total spending from the South African gaming community is higher than you may think, which is why we hope gamers out there actually realise what Rectron`s involvement has done for growth in SA gaming."
This year`s Rectron Electronic Sports World Cup plays host to a number of gaming disciplines including games such as WarCraft III and Counter-Strike.
The winners of the South African event will be sent to Paris, France during July 2005 to compete in the Grand Final of the World Cup for a total prize purse of more than $350 000 and the title of World Champions.
"We`re looking forward to the Rectron Electronic Sports World Cup, and feel privileged to be part of such a landmark gaming event. This is only but one of the examples that demonstrate our continued commitment to a marketplace that is still relatively untapped," comments Reon Coetzee, marketing manager at Rectron.
