Rectron, one of SA`s fastest growing distributors of computer components, PCs and peripheral products, has been appointed as an authorised Direct Distributor for the full range of Symantec software products. The company has, in the past, been selling Symantec software under a sub-distributor agreement, but this new deal opens a window of opportunities for both parties, according to Mark Lu, Rectron CEO.
He says securing the Symantec distributorship is an important milestone for Rectron, which was previously focused on hardware sales.
"Symantec`s offerings complement Rectron`s catalogue, being hardware-related," explains Lu.
Key products include Norton Utilities, WinFax Pro, PC Anywhere and a range of soon-to-be released Internet security products.
"These products will dovetail with our range of hardware marketed to our 7 000-strong nation-wide dealer base," he says.
Lu adds that Rectron will take Symantec products into a new market sector, not previously penetrated to any significant degree by Symantec or its resellers.
"Rectron has significant penetration at the smaller business user level - a growing market sector that Symantec does not currently dominate. Together with our reseller partners, we expect to move a significant amount of their software into this area of the marketplace in the coming months."
