Two Red Brick Systems customers, Blue Cross/Blue Shield Association and Premier Inc, have been awarded 1998 Best Practice Awards by the Data Warehousing Institute. These international awards are determined by a panel of judges and industry experts, and take into account the following criteria: * Truly innovative solutions to problems commonly faced by data warehousing practitioners. * Practices that can be followed by others - at least others in the same industry as the candidate. * Large, measurable impacts on key criteria of business success in their organisation. The winners are to be recognised at the Data Warehousing Institute Conference in Chicago during May. Blue Cross/Blue Shield Association Blue Cross Blue Shield Association`s Federal Employee Programme won the DWI`s 1998 Best Practice Award for Architecture. They were nominated based on Ray Pyle`s initial vision and delivery of a decision support system available to all Blue Cross plans across the country that manage the care of Federal employees. The data warehouse team has delivered three data marts to date. Its next project will be the initial roll-out of VIPS` MC Source product. After the first mart`s deployment, Pyle and his team decided they didn`t want to be the system integrators for the claims warehouse. Looking to best-of-breed solutions, they selected VIPS` MC Source. Premier Inc Premier Inc is the US`s largest hospital association, with close to 2 000 hospitals in its programmes.The services it provides to its members are management consulting, maintenance services for special equipment, volume purchase agreements, and IS applications. Premier has won the award for outstanding applications in the area of data warehousing for its implementaiton of Medicare Comparative Analysis information using MicroStrategy. According to Tom Palmer, director of IS for the Comparative Analysis Business Unit, "Red Brick products and services were absolutely the key to success for this project. The Red Brick decision was the only one that they did not question throughout the development of this system. Red Brick has delivered every promised business benefit from Day One."
