Obsidian Systems Training has announced it will host a world first pilot of the Red Hat 007 training course this month, a course intended for users wishing to run Linux on the desktop, but not focusing on advanced usage of the open source operating system.
Says Buli Tikolo, training co-ordinator for Obsidian Systems: "Obsidian Systems will be the first institution in the world to offer the RH007 course. We will pilot it from the 10th to 12th August this year."
The course will be attended by members of the Obsidian Systems team and will provide valuable feedback for Red Hat in optimising the course before its official availability. "Obsidian Systems has always worked very closely with Red Hat in our training programmes and we will be working with them once again in optimising the RH007 course," says Tikolo.
Jasmine Huxtable-Wright, Red Hat Global`s EMEA Learning Services Manager, Adds: "For the past five years Red Hat Global Learning Services has concentrated on providing curriculum materials for training system administrators and engineers to an advanced level. But with the emergence of a new market opportunity to cater for the needs of customers who are using the desktop product or using a Linux desktop only, we are providing RH007."
Huxtable-Wright explains that it was decided to allow Obsidian Systems to host the pilot of this exciting new course as the first institution in the world outside of Red Hat to pilot one of its courses. "Up to now we have always piloted at Red Hat in the US. When Obsidian Systems volunteered their services to pilot the course and provide feedback essential to the usual introduction and roll-out of a Red Hat course, this provided us with a unique opportunity to gain an instructor and audience viewpoint from outside Red Hat itself."
She continues that not just anybody would have been trusted with the responsibility of acid-testing a brand new Red Hat course. "Red Hat Global Learning Services has partnered with Obsidian Systems training department for nearly five years. Obsidian has been very active in providing Red Hat Linux training and certification of both the levels of RHCE and then RHCT."
The RH007 course offers a unique approach for desktop Linux users and does not form part of the RHCE or RHCT qualification. For more information, contact Obsidian System`s Training Department on 0860 4 Linux or visit www.obsidian.co.za.
