RedCreek announces new network security manager for VPNs

RedCreek Communications, a leading supplier of secure Virtual Private Network (VPN) hardware and software today announced the RavlinSoft Administrator (RSAdmin), a new utility program that lets security administrators better manage their security systems. To allow more centralized control of the security network the RSAdmin lets a network security manager specify RedCreek`s remote access client RavlinSoft settings and store them in configuration files. Once these files are distributed, each RedCreek RavlinSoft user can simply double-click their file to import the RavlinSoft parameters into a registry. Larger installations can use software distribution tools like Microsoft`s SMS or Novell`s ZENWorks to fully automate deployment of both RavlinSoft and the customized configuration files. The RSAdmin program runs on Windows(R) 95/98 and Windows NT(R) 4.0.

"We are constantly developing tools that will make it easier for network security managers to administer their security systems," said Steve Peters, senior vice president of engineering, at RedCreek Communications Inc. "The RavlinSoft Administrator facilitates the deployment of RavlinSoft clients from a centrally managed IT location and ensures that clients are correctly configured easily and simply installed," he added. There are usually two parties who work with the configuration files created by the RSAdmin. One is the security administrator, who uses the program to create, modify and store configuration files. The other is the end-user who receives a configuration file and invokes its contents. When establishing a configuration file the security administrator may create a configuration file, that are sets of RavlinSoft configuration values and determines how a client communicates with other security devices. The administrator then saves the configuration to a configuration file, that prevents unauthorized interception of information. The configuration files are distributed via email, diskette, FTP, or some other medium. After the administrator distributes the configuration files, the end-user can receive and save the file, receive and record the password, import the configuration or start a RavlinSoft session by simply entering the password when prompted.
