Notebook PCs are the new driving force behind the global PC market with sales reaching $120.3 billion in 2006, according to Semico Research. Coupled with this increased interest in mobility is a greater propensity for damage to notebook screens. Leading IT infrastructure distributor, Axiz has introduced the Targus Dome Protection System (DPS), an innovative technology that protects the notebook screen from damage while being transported.
"An increased desire for mobility has seen more PC users adopting notebooks as their primary PC. This mobile lifestyle has generated a greater likelihood for notebook screen damage due to weight-force pressure while travelling. For this reason, Targus developed the DPS to protect notebook user`s screens while commuting," says Stefanie Bosman, Targus product manager at Axiz.
Tried and tested by Garwood Laboratory, an independent US-based test house, the Targus DPS protects the front panel of a notebook up to 57% better and the back panel up to 500% better than a notebook transported without the technology. It provides key sidewall protection to a notebook, and in so doing, helps prevent screen damage by evenly dispersing external weight forces away from the vulnerable centre of the screen to the more damage-resistant edges of the notebook.
Bosman says the Targus DPS operates as a series of layered, shock-absorbing circles that are inserted into the walls of the notebook case. It thus minimises common abrasions that occur as a result of the friction of the keyboard when it is forced against the centre of the screen due to weight pressure.
According to Bosman, the Targus DPS is both an exciting and innovative technology that will ensure a longer life span for notebook screens and is currently available in the Targus Global Executive Line.
