Regional Trojans outsmart defences
Cyber crooks have developed regionally-targeted banking Trojans that are more likely to slip under the radar of anti-virus defences, reports The Register.
Detection rates for regional malware vary between zero and 20%, according to a study by transaction security firm Trusteer.
Trusteer cites two pieces of regional malware targeted at UK banking consumers. Silon.var2, crops up on one in every 500 computers in the UK compared to one in 20 000 in the US. Another strain of malware, dubbed Agent-DBJP, was found on one in 5 000 computers in the UK compared to one in 60 000 in the US.
Yes Bank deploys mobile money services
Chandigarh became the first city in India where the private sector Yes Bank, in association with Nokia and Obopay India, a global provider of mobile payment technology, introduced 'Mobile money services by Yes bank', states Business Standard.
The bank started its service commercially on Friday and has plans to extend this across India in a phased manner. The service enables the secure transfer of money using the mobile device and aims to create financial inclusion among the unbanked and under-banked consumer segments.
It would enable consumers to transfer money to other individuals, pay utility bills as well as recharge prepaid SIM cards by using their mobile devices. Subsequently, consumers would also be able to pay merchants for goods and services via their cellphone.
