Release of new version of tax application software

Johannesburg, 28 Mar 2003

The latest release of the Bull Tax Administration Application will be released in the third quarter of 2003. This version will have a number of significant changes and enhancements when compared to previous releases.

The key features of the new release are to include:

* A framework which facilitates rapid translation to any language of choice;

* The capture, processing and reporting of financial transactions in multiple currencies;

* Due to taxpayer registration forms differing from country to country - the application provides a form design tool permitting authorised users to design and maintain their own registration forms without code changes;

* The tax computations are now driven by a "rules engine" which may be accessed by authorised users, permitting them to define and run new taxes and / or to modify the tax regime underlying the existing taxes;

* Due to the fact that the return of income forms used within a revenue authority need to change in order to meet legislative changes, the new release contains a "flexible form design tool" whereby authorised users can change the screen layout to match the forms, without the need for any code changes;

* Similarly, the audit case selection is driven by an "audit rules engine," designed in the same manner as the tax rules engine;

* The new release is based on true internet, thin client technology, permitting deployment over the web and not only over intranet networks;

* The modular design has been retained in order to permit potential customers to procure only those modules required;

* The new release will be now operating system independent, allowing use on Windows, Linux and AIX;

* Due to the use of internet technology, the new release will have significantly improved security features;

* Processes and functions (especially between modules) is now driven by a workflow process, which prompts users to take action, rather than waiting for users to initiate action on the system.

This release is based on "rules engine" technologies used to great success in the Bull e-Biscus customs applications which have been deployed in Cyprus, Malta and now in Morocco. We are planning to release the new version during the planned annual Tax Seminar, scheduled for Dubai in the third quarter of this year. We will keep you informed of progress.
