Report back: Save money, make money with BCS, Alcatel-Lucent

Johannesburg, 07 May 2009

Using technology to save money and make money was the key theme carried home by local premier Alcatel-Lucent partner, Bytes Communication Systems (BCS), after recently returning from the vendor's prestigious Enterprise Forum, hosted in Paris.

BCS has for many years used the forum as a mechanism to educate its own staff and clients on new trends in the communications industry, as well as provide a snapshot of what technologies can be expected from the vendor in the coming years.

As the 19th annual Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Forum, this year's event followed on from the success of the 2008 Forum and further promoted Alcatel-Lucent's vision of creating The Dynamic Enterprise. This year the key message of the forum focused on how organisations can use converged technology solutions to foster a dynamic technology environment that will aid companies in their plight to save money and make money.

“Organisations today have the same priorities as before, such as retaining talent, gaining market share and retaining customers, but on top of this they are also faced with a host of new challenges,” says Richard Menton, product development manager at BCS.

“The economic slowdown is putting pressure on companies to do more with less; they are also having to embrace environmental issues to ensure that they operate more eco-friendly, and they have to embrace new business mechanisms such as social networking. Technology needs to start aiding in meeting these goals not just as a business enabler, but as a central part of the dynamic enterprise.”

The keynote address demonstrated how organisations can become a dynamic enterprise by interconnecting the core assets of its business - network, people, process and knowledge - using secure, always-on communications. The ultimate goal of which is to simplify communications with unbound networks, connect knowledge to drive business performance, and strengthen relationships through superior customer experience.

Among the myriad announcements made at the forum was a demonstration on a new next-generation integrated solution for emergency call handling, based on PSA Peugeot Citro"en eCall system; the fact that tennis venue Wimbledon has transformed its media and visitor communications services with an Alcatel-Lucent solution; as well as Gwinnett County Public Schools now connecting homebound students with a Alcatel-Lucent Unified Communications and Collaboration solution; and advice on how to become a dynamic enterprise. Another highlight was the announcement that Alcatel-Lucent has exceeded one million users of its OmniPCX Office solution for SMEs in Iberia.

“The event is a highlight on the BCS calendar and we see the forum as a critical part of understanding where Alcatel-Lucent is taking its technologies, so we can better see where we are taking our customers, tomorrow and beyond,” ends Menton.
