Research puts Philips projectors on top

Johannesburg, 08 Jul 2003

Combining portability, reliability and competitive prices with high performance, Philips has secured 22.1% of the projector market in SA for 2002. This is the verdict of a recent study conducted by Decision Tree Consulting (DTC) who compared the projectors of 40 manufacturers across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

DTC figures reflect that of the 8 644 projectors sold in SA in 2002, Philips was responsible for selling 1 910 of these, putting the company into the number one spot for sales in 2002. Added to this is an 8.3% hold on the EMEA market.

Tyrone Young, marketing manager: projectors and monitors at Philips, says this high number of sales can, to a large extent, be attributed to the fact that Philips has been in the lighting business for decades which has given the company the upper hand in producing high quality lamps.

"All Philips projects are fitted with ultra high-performance lamps and, at 6 000 hours, the bSure range has a lamp life three times that of most of our competitors` products," Young says, adding that this longer lamp life not only makes Philips projectors more convenient to run, but also better value as lamp need not be replaced as often.

In addition to the value added by the long lamp life, Philips projectors are fast and easy to install with plug-and-play technology making them time saving and user-friendly. These projectors are also compatible with a vast range of data and video sources, making the Philips family the first choice for most business and home use.

Looking to the future, Young predicts that, based on first quarter sales figures, the company will continue to soar, gaining more of the market throughout the year. "The indications are that we will top 35% market share this year," he says.
