Resellers to take aim at growing digital photographic industry

Resellers in the consumables business should be proactive in selling the benefits attached to the digital photography industry - that is if they want to be part of what Epson suggests will be one of the faster growing markets in the near future.

Advanced Consumables Technologies (ACT), through its Training Academy division, recently hosted a training session in conjunction with Epson in order to highlight the potential that it sees in digital photography and printing. According to Hans Dummer, general manager of Epson SA, the use of digital photography - particularly within the high-end corporate segment - warrants closer inspection and effort from resellers of consumables.

"What we are saying is that this segment of the market shows particular promise. Digital photography and prints has become a key part of the corporate strategy and this is where resellers should position themselves to take advantage. Retail accounts are going to be moving into this space in a big way and resellers have a huge opportunity. In terms of technology and usage, SA is not yet at the level compared to that of Europe or the US, but it is an emerging market characterised by steady growth," says Dummer.

From a consumable point of view, the top end digital photography market relies heavily on multimedia including paper, toners, etc.

"The top-end enterprise market is more focussed on utilising multi-media product to enrich their services and product offering. Our resellers should empower themselves with knowledge of the cost benefits, convenience and enhancement qualities of digital photography and the related consumables," explains Laetitia Van Den Berg, Epson product manager at ACT.
