RetailWorx .NET makes its debut at JD Group.

Johannesburg, 13 Aug 2007

Microsoft certified partner EnterpriseWorx officially made its mark in the retail software industry today with its groundbreaking new Retail Store Management Application at the JD Group.

With 40 years of combined retail software experience, EnterpriseWorx executive management was perfectly positioned to take on the requirements that the JD Group laid out 10 months ago, to rebuild from the ground up its in-store applications on a modern technology platform.

In line with its IT strategy, one of the largest retailers in Africa, the JD Group, invested in the EnterpriseWorx framework.

The framework features:

* Seamlessly switching between online and offline capability. Simplifying the end-user experience and enhancing system availability.
* Sub-second, near real-time synchronisation of data between the stores and the head office even on high latency, satellite networks.
* Provides the user with a uniform experience integrating into a number of complex backend systems, simplifying change management for the end-user when implementing and upgrading these backend systems.
* In-store redundancy significantly increases availability to trade and decreases time to recover.
* Built with modern software factory patterns and practices allowing the quickest time to production for custom components and modules.

"The build or buy decision has become the main fork in the road for corporations the world over when it comes to IT spend decisions. The EnterpriseWorx application framework allows us to leverage both strategies where it makes sense, when it makes sense, while minimising the effect on our 7 000 end-users," said Ian Child, JD Group CIO.

The JD Group's ambitions were high, with a full roll-out of new hardware, a new operating system and new application software all in the same financial year. This resulted in one of the largest implementations of these technologies in the southern hemisphere, including:

* Windows Vista Business operating system
* .NET 3.0 applications
* SQL Server 2005 express database
* Synchronising with SQL Server Service Broker Messaging.

The application is piloting in two retail stores, with a national roll-out planned during the coming financial year.

"Having applied the newest object oriented techniques in the framework, we achieve levels of decoupling and reusability unheard of in most enterprise level applications; this supports the ability to plug-and-play custom components with minimal impact and an accelerated time to production," said Marc Walter, EnterpriseWorx CEO.
