Intelligent Systems has introduced a fifth generation 6x CD ROM reader designed to allow the user to write and rewrite CDs. According to Chris Roux, MD, IS, the CDD3600 records information on low cost CD-Recordable (CD-R) media, and is the first device on the market to write and rewrite the newly standardised CD-ReWritable (CD-RW) discs.
"The CDD3600 offers unlimited storage capacity with all the known benefits of a high speed CD-ROM drive" he says. "It may be used to create portable databases, to archive and backup important information or save data downloaded from the Internet."
Roux says that CD-ReWritable disks can be rewritten many times over and are read compatible with the latest, MultiRead capable CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drives. "The Philips CDD3600 features a standard media capacity of 650 MB on CD ROM and CD-R disks," he explains, "and writes and rewrites at speeds of 350 KB/sec."
For the best ease-of-use, the CDD3600 automatically identifies the media as it is loaded into the drive and uses the appropriate internal mechanisms. In addition, CD recordable media are fully compatible with the new more than 600 million CD-ROM drives and CD-Audio players installed world-wide and will also work with the new DVD-ROM drives.
"With the help of application software products," says Roux, "the Philips CDD3600 will create Audio CDs, Photo CDs and many other multimedia titles. It also enables drive letter access and drag and drop file handling in most major operating systems and applications through its use of UDF file management software."
CD ReWritable adds unlimited storage capacity in addition to the benefits of a high speed CD-ROM drive. Installation is also a straightforward affair using a PnP CD-ROM drive for Win 95 and Win NT. High performance backup and restore of your critical data at speeds of up to 30MB per minute with software data compression, and restore speeds of up to 54 MB per minute. Standard features allow a typical storage of up to 1.3 GB of data per disc.
