JSE-listed Reunert company Saco Systems has signed a deal with UK-based Intellident to supply 'smart label' radio frequency identification (RFID) solutions in southern Africa.
The market in the region is estimated to be worth over R300 million in the next five to ten years.
Saco Systems is an RFID systems integrator that designs and supplies tag, track and trace solutions to various industries in southern Africa. In terms of the deal, Saco Systems will have exclusive distribution rights for all Intellident RFID library solution products in the region.
The Intellident Library Solution range of products is designed to replace the barcode-dependent front-end of traditional library management systems.
Des Oliver, sales and marketing director of Saco Systems, has identified a need for the Intellident offering in Africa. "We are keen to introduce this technology to our market as it has so much to offer in terms of efficiency and customer care."
The dual-function (memory and security) smart labels are paper-thin electronic devices containing a small microchip, which is powered by radio waves. These smart labels can be adhered to books, DVDs, video and CD-cases, and will allow libraries to speed up check-in and issue processes and shelf inventory control.
